Honda achieves world-first five-star FIA Road Safety Index rating

Honda has become the first company in the world to receive the highest five-star rating in the FIA Road Safety Index's products and services assessment.

The new rating recognises Honda's comprehensive approach to road safety – from the development of safer vehicles and technologies to driver and rider education, collision research and the promotion of a strong safety culture.

A world first for Honda

The FIA Road Safety Index was created by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to help businesses and organisations measure, manage and improve their impact on road safety.

Honda became the first automotive company to achieve the Index's previous highest three-star rating in February 2025. Since then, the FIA has expanded and strengthened the assessment, introducing a new five-star rating system and additional areas including:

• Planning
• Monitoring of safety performance
• Safety culture management
• Products and services coverage

For the latest assessment, Honda expanded the scope of its evaluation to 17 countries, together accounting for more than 90% of its global motorcycle and automobile sales.

Honda became the first organisation to achieve the new maximum five-star rating for products and services.

Working towards zero traffic fatalities

The recognition forms part of Honda's long-term commitment to improving safety for everyone who shares the road – not simply the occupants of Honda vehicles.

Honda has set itself the ambitious global targets of:

• reducing traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 50% by 2030, compared with 2020; and
• achieving zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 2050.

Honda is pursuing these goals through continued advances in vehicle safety technology, a better understanding of how collisions happen, and initiatives designed to encourage safer driving and riding.

The five-star FIA Road Safety Index rating provides independent recognition of the progress being made towards those objectives.

Safety has long been an important part of Honda's engineering philosophy, with modern Honda cars combining advanced active and passive safety systems designed not only to help protect their occupants, but also to help avoid accidents in the first place.

The FIA's latest recognition demonstrates that this focus extends beyond individual technologies or vehicles to Honda's broader approach to road safety around the world.
