Official pictures have been released of the new Honda CR-V, which will go on sale in January 2010.

The car will be available with Honda's 2.2-litre i-DTEC engine, which was launched in the Accord last year, for the first time. It produces 148bhp and 258lb ft of torque. It can also be mated to either a manual gearbox or a new, five-speed automatic unit.

Honda's new CEO, Takanobu Ito, has announced plans to begin sales of the CR-Z hybrid car in Japan in February 2010. Ito also mentioned that details of a UK release date for the new hybrid will be announced towards the end of 2009.

The Honda CR-Z is the company's sportiest hybrid model yet, with Honda giving it more power and performance than the Insight in a bid to improve the image of hybrids.

Honda will unveil its first hot diesel, in the shape of the new Honda Accord Type S, at the Geneva motor show in March, the company has announced.

The Honda Accord Type S will use the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as the standard car, but tweaked to produce an extra 22lb ft of torque and 29bhp more. The power gain is achieved through the use of a larger intercooler and changes to the turbocharger and cylinder head.

The Accord i-DTEC automatic will go on sale in January 2009 priced from £22,400. Honda will launch its first automatic transmission for a diesel engine in 2009, with the new gearbox featuring in the Accord.

The Japanese manufacturer expects automatic transmission in the Accord to appeal to a new segment of customers, particularly in the corporate market, where it considers high mileage user choosers often will only consider an automatic transmission.

Power Honda Costa Mesa, Honda of Santa Monica and Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance have been selected as each is located in close proximity to hydrogen refueling stations and will be well-positioned to support Honda's growing base of customers of its FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car.
