The new 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid in

Ahead of its European show debut at the 2018 Mondial Paris Motor Show, Honda has confirmed official fuel economy and CO2 emissions for the all-new CR-V Hybrid. Under the combined cycle of the revised NEDC test, the front-wheel drive model of the 184 PS (135 kW) petrol-electric SUV has achieved CO2 emissions of 120g/km and official average (combined) fuel economy of 5.3l/100km (53.3mpg). The all-wheel drive CR-V Hybrid variant has CO2 emissions of 126g/km and average (combined) fuel economy of 5.5 l/100km (51.4 mpg).

The CR-V Hybrid is driven by Honda's unique i-MMD technology, which intelligently and automatically switches between three driving modes - EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive - to optimise both performance and efficiency.

Honda has confirmed official fuel economy and CO2 emissions for two new 2018 models, including the upgraded Civic 1.6-litre i-DTEC, which offers fuel economy of up to 3.5 l/100km (80.7 mpg) on the NEDC test.

Comprehensive revisions to the 120 PS 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine for the all-new Honda Civic range endow it with an outstanding combination of performance and efficiency. The improvements reduce cylinder friction, improve the efficiency of NOx conversion, and further develop the driveability of the car.

Choosing your next Honda

There has been much debate about diesel cars and their emissions, both CO2, NOx and particulates. In order to make a decision on your next car, you need to understand these emission types and how they relate to the sort of driving you do:

  • CO2 - contributes to global warning and is a threat to the planet
  • NOx and particulates - affect local air quality and are an urban challenge

The annual Which? Car Survey has named the Honda CR-V 2.2 i-VTEC the UK's most reliable 4x4/SUV up to three years old; with zero reported breakdowns, average annual repair costs of just £10 and an overall reliability score of 98.5% over a twelve month period.

Furthermore the CR-V shone through with 0.14 faults reported, compared to 0.88 for the worst performing in its category; and 0.11 days off the road, with the worst performing recording an average 1.09 days.

A rigorous round of real-world testing dubbed the ‘MPG Marathon’ has once again underlined the impressive fuel-efficiency of the new Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC.

In the test of 23 cars driven by independent journalists and company car drivers on UK roads, the Civic took third place for overall mpg, behind the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic and Renault Clio Dynamique - both much smaller cars than the Honda.

Honda has added the 1.6-litre diesel engine from the Civic hatchback to the CR-V range, and in doing so, it has created the most economical and lowest-emitting version of its family-friendly SUV.

Thus far, the most frugal CR-V has been the 2.2-litre diesel-engined model, which averages just over 50mpg and emits 149g/km, but the 1.6-litre model has that well beaten: it averages 62.8mpg and emits just 119g/km of CO2. That makes it one of the most frugal SUVs on sale today.

Earlier this year Honda (UK) invited a few of its Twitter followers, to make a video-based test drive review of the new Civic 1.6 i-DTEC. But no ordinary review - a challenge to find how far the new Civic Diesel might go on a single tank of diesel.

With an official combined fuel economy of 78.5 mpg, the 120 PS i-DTEC engined Civic and its 50 litre capacity fuel tank could theoretically cover a range of over 850 miles - but we all know the official figures set by industry standard simulated test cycles are rarely comparable to real life driving and speeds.

A while ago we announced the launch of the new 1.6 litre diesel. As expected, it is now being added to the Honda Civic range. The new engine boasts 120-PS and achieves 78.5-mpg whilst emitting just 94g/km CO2 - thus qualifying it for free road tax and exemption from the London Congestion charge (subject to registration).

Honda Motor Europe's President, Manabu Nishimae, today announced that the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine in the new Civic would deliver CO2 emissions of 95g/km.

The new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine is the first drive train from Honda's new Earth Dreams Technology engine series to be introduced into Europe. It will be manufactured at Honda's UK manufacturing facility in Swindon from the end of 2012.
