At the start line - and they're off!

On Friday 28th September over 500 ladies took the streets around Woking to take part in the eight mile Midnight Walk 2018.

The atmosphere was amazing as ladies of all ages gathered at Woking Leisure Centre ready to take on the challenge, walking together to remember loved ones and to raise vital funds for the hospice. The room was filled with glow-in-the dark t-shirts and flashing bunny ears as the lights were dimmed to observe a minute's silence before the walk began at 10pm.

Trident Honda sponsored this year's event and they also sponsor the annual Dragon Boat Race that takes place at Goldsworth Park Lake just around the corner from Woking Hospice.

Downslink Challenge hands cheque for £10,294.83 to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices

The Downslink Challenge, at the beginning of June, helped to raise more than £20,000 for the White Lodge Centre and Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

This amazing event, sponsored by Trident Honda, started at the Garibaldi pub and travelled all the way to Brighton and back - a distance of 102 miles. Cyclists also had the option of starting in Brighton, thereby reducing the distance to a still amazing 51 miles. But some of the longer-distance riders extended it to a staggering 122 miles, by following a diversion on the way home.

In loving memory of Michael Roberts, Woking & Sam Beare Hospices is delighted to announce that one of its 20 bedrooms at newly built Woking Hospice will be named after the late Mr Roberts, whose family have supported the Surrey-wide hospice for over two-and-a-half decades.

Held on Wednesday 20th June, the hospice held a special room naming ceremony to mark the extraordinary life of Michael Roberts, who was the father of Mark, Richard, Christopher and James Roberts and founder of Trident Honda, the family run community car dealership in Ottershaw which has been a corporate partner of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices since 1992. Also in attendance for the naming of the room were Terry Smith and Tony Usher representing Woking Rotary Club who over the years have been hugely supportive of the hospices and have now funded the hoist for Room 20.

Only a few cakes left

We are today, Friday 20th October, holding a Mufti for Michael day in remembrance of our founder Michael Roberts and to raise money for the Woking Hospice, who cared for Michael so well towards the end of his life.

Thank you to all our team for supporting the event, and especially to Alex Russell, who kindly volunteered to bake cakes for a cake sale. Sadly there are very few left now (see photo opposite)!

In all we believe that we will have collected around £350 for this wonderful cause today.

Total monies raised is still to be confirmed but the event was extremely well attended and the atmosphere from start to finish was fantastic. Woking Leisure Centre was our new venue for registration, followed by a warm up lead by fitness experts from Nuffield Health and Freedom Leisure, before the ladies set off on the eight mile walk. The sea of flashing lights could be seen through Woking Centre and up to the new hospice in Goldsworth Park Centre, around the lake, and back to Woking Leisure Centre via Horsell. At the finish line the ladies were greeted and presented with medals by event sponsor Richard Roberts, Managing Director of Trident Honda, and newly confirmed permanent CEO of the hospice Jayne Cooper.

Michael Roberts - 30 January 1931 to 4 April 2017

It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that Michael Roberts, our Founder, Chairman, Friend and Father passed away peacefully at 10am this morning at the Woking Hospice, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Michael established Trident Honda in 1963 and managed the business for some 33 years until his retirement in 1996. The business was incredibly important to him and he instilled within it a strong culture of customer care which persists to this day. Michael continued to take a keen interest in the business right through to his final days.
